Normally when I travel, I always go on a fully guided tour. That way everything is laid out for me and all I need to do is wake up and go with the tour guide and group. However not all tours run so smoothly, especially my 2019 Brazil tour where the tour operator cancelled the tour at the last minute! Thankfully Get Your Guide came through at the last minute.
I was determined to go so I found another option and when I landed in Brazil, that’s when I said to myself…”It’s fine I’ll figure it out and have a good time.”
That’s when Get Your Guide came in handy and I was able to see something I normally wouldn’t have on the tour.
What Does Get Your Guide Offer?
In short, Get Your Guide is all about ‘making memories’ covering must see iconic attractions to under the radar hidden gems to foodie excursions to pub crawls. They have something for everyone, think of Get Your Guide as a directory of activities in just about any city on the world.
My experience with Get Your Guide
When I was in Brazil I had to fill up some days I had literally nothing to do, I did a quick online search and discovered Get Your Guide, so I hoped online and took a look at what they were offering in Rio de Janeiro and Barra da Tijuca. I decided to do a hike at the Tijuca Forest + Botanical Garden. All I had to do was meet the group at one of the designated pickup points, mine was at a hotel on Copacabana beach.
It was a 6-hour excursion with a mix of adventure and history, something a regular tour I doubt would have covered. The highlights included seeing the highest waterfall in the park, the Capela Mayrink (a pink chapel) and the beautiful nature that Brazil has to offer.

This day trip was not at all expensive, at the time, the day trip was about $50 and it was well worth it.
Some other must-see day tours in Brazil are:
- 6-Stop Highlights of Rio with Lunch (8 hours)
- Pub Crawl in Lapa with Cachaça Tasting and Live Samba (4 hours)
- Santa Teresa – Bohemia and Art (3 hours)
On my last European tour, I had a free day in Budapest so I decided to do half day visiting Buda Castle…I took my time with this one since the it’s so massive.
- Buda Castle District Walking Tour (3 hours)
- Buda Castle Cave Tour (90 minutes)
If you’re looking for an unforgettable night at the Jewish Quarter, check out the ruined bars with these fun filled activities:
- Tipsy Tour Fun Bar Crawl with Local Guide (3 hours)
- Guided Ruin Bars Crawl with Open Bar & 6 free Shots (5 hours)
- 5-Hour Pub Crawl through Ruin Bars (5 hours)
Is Get Your Guide worth it?
Absolutely! The booking process was simple, all I had to do was figure out what to see, look at the pictures and read the overwhelming positive reviews. If there is something you want to do in your destination but not sure how, Get Your Guide is the way to go in making it easy.
Hot Tip: Make sure to read the full tour description to understand what you are getting!
Get Your Guide is ideal for solo travelers that don’t like tours. I have a close friend that will land in some foreign spot totally alone and will fill his itinerary using GYG. He likes the independence and don’t care to be part of a tour. I felt the same thing when I was in Brazil, I had days to myself where all I did was hang out at the beach and sip on some Caipirinhas.
Final Key Takeaways from GetYourGuide.com
Read the description: It has all the information you need to know the highlights of the day tour or excursion, pickup point, duration, size of the group and any extras. Many times there are extra items you wouldn’t expect.
Read the reviews: They are all rated best out of 5 stars. So any activity with a high number of positive reviews is the direction you’ll want to go. If there are a low number of reviews I’d skip it since it doesn’t see it’s that popular.
Save the booking email: Save the email confirmation on your phone so at the meet up point there won’t be any issues.
I made sure to thoroughly research the activities and read all the details making sure I wasn’t wasting my time. Luckily the reviews are there for all to see some people don’t hold back if they had a bad experience. Get Your Guide really does make things easy…click on the activity, read the details and see what you’re getting and read the reviews. Now you can fill your trip with activities you want to do.
